In November the national Christian charity, Home for Good, released a report championing the role of supported lodgings both in improving outcomes for young people but also in overcoming the challenges experienced by the social care sector linked to the limited number of high-quality options for teenagers in, and leaving, care.

The report highlighted three benefits for young people including greater relational support, the opportunity to develop key life skills, and increased stability and security.  In addition, the report noted that supported lodgings presents a more financially viable and sustainable option than many alternative semi-independent options and also has the capacity to draw more people into caring for vulnerable young people, especially those for whom fostering is not a suitable option.

Finally, the report calls on both the local and national government, and churches, to do more to facilitate the expansion of supported lodgings and enable more young people to be given the option of a supported lodgings placement.

You can find a full copy of the report here which includes a case study on Concrete Rose (page 39 😀👍)
